Inflation rises in April
Inflation increased to 4.4% in April, following March’s 4.0%. April's figure marked the highest inflation rate since January 2023. The reading was driven by rising prices for food and transportation. The trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.3% in April (March: 3.2%). Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.07% in April over the previous month, swinging from the 0.23% drop seen in March.
